About Our Organization
A Letter From Our Founder...
P.S. You’re My Hero is an organization that was born out of a family’s tragedy. In November 2010 our family found ourselves going through the unthinkable, a home invasion, murder, and betrayal. From that point on we were thrown into a completely unknown world including the physical, emotional, and financial obstacles of a crime. We were facing the mountain of all mountains that included our new reality, beginning the healing process, attending, and testifying at hearings, trials, and sentencing, and trying to find our new normal. As a family, we lifted, supported, and carried each other through every step. We were thankful that we had each other and some resources to help support us through.
I would like you to know that It is completely overwhelming being a victim; emotionally, physically, and financially. It is a dark place, a world that people don’t want to talk about or hear about, and not a place that anyone wants to be in. It is because of this, I think, we do not do enough for victims. Victims really don’t want to ask for help, it’s hard. We are already in the most vulnerable of places and now we must purposefully be more vulnerable to get assistance, not happening….
It was through this experience that I founded P.S. You’re My Hero… P.S. stands for Paul Skinner, my husband who lost his life in this tragedy. I wanted to find ways to help those, who have been victimized by crime, in the kindest of ways. I relied on my experience and the things that would have been helpful to me in putting together resources and provisions for those affected by crime.
WE WANT TO PUT VICTIMS FIRST!!
Our Mission
We are a non-profit organization focused on advocating for victims of crimes in St. Clair County, Michigan. We work collaboratively with the Victim's Rights Office of St. Clair County.
At PS You're My Hero, our mission is to help those in need by providing financial assistance to crime victims in a variety of ways such as counseling packages, rent and utility assistance, medical bills or food vouchers while attending court hearings.
We receive our funding through sponsorships, donations and annual fundraising events to support our cause.

What We Do
We support victims of crime in St. Clair County by providing no cost counseling packages, assist with individual needs impacted by crime, provide a comfort room in the Victim's Rights Office, and offer victims our therapy dog service while in the courthouse. We have been able to put victims first thanks to support from the community!
Support Packages
One of our main goals is to help carry the burden directly after a crime and during the trial without red tape. We provide funds for the St. Clair County Victims Rights team to access for the needs of recent victims of crime. This includes paying for victims rent or hotel stay, food vouchers and repairing personal items damaged during a crime.
Comfort Room
Criminal trials can be overwhelming for the victim. Providing the victim and his/her family a comfortable private space in the court building during breaks and supplying light refreshments and meal vouchers is the goal of this program.
Counseling
We currently offer several Therapy Session packages.
For those recent victims of crime, in collaboration with the St. Clair Victim Rights team, we offer group sessions, and a package of 5 private sessions. For the extreme cases, we typically extend this.

Comfort Dog
There is a special unconditional comfort our furry friends can offer, that human interaction cannot. At the direction of the St. Clair County Victims right unit, we will help offer a comfort dog at the court house during the breaks in the trial. PSYMH is very happy to support this program.
Victim's Rights Office
We work collaboratively with the Victims Rights Office of St. Clair County.
